Historique
Forteresse de plaine dont la seule valeur militaire réside dans les fossés en eau. Le château remonte au 13e siècle et a subi plusieurs reconstructions et modifications jusqu'au 19e siècle. L'édifice présente un plan polygonal à 17 côtés dont l'un, à l'ouest, est flanqué d'une grosse tour. Suite à la destruction de la courtine, l'accès à la cour se fait en franchissant trois ponts dormants ayant remplacé les anciens ponts-levis. Le parcours est ponctué de postes de tir. A l'intérieur, à l'étage, les pièces se répartissent autour de la bibliothèque de Montesquieu, seule partie restant du château reconstruit en 1306. De l'autre côté de la bibliothèque, à l'ouest, se trouvent les appartements de la fin du 19e siècle, réalisés par Abadie. Un vaste domaine forestier sillonné de canaux entoure le château.

History
Plain fortress whose only military value resides in the water-filled ditches. The château dates from the 13th century and underwent several reconstructions and modifications until the 19th century. The building presents a polygonal plan with 17 sides, one of which, on the west, is flanked by a large tower. Following the destruction of the curtain wall, access to the courtyard is by crossing three fixed bridges which replaced the old drawbridges. The route is punctuated by gun positions. Inside, on the first floor, the rooms are distributed around the library of Montesquieu, the only part remaining of the château rebuilt in 1306. On the other side of the library, to the west, are found the apartments of the end of the 19th century, created by Abadie. A vast forest estate crisscrossed by canals surrounds the château.
