L'édifice est édifié vers 1070 puis agrandi ou rebâti au début du 13e siècle par l'évêque Arnaud II de Pins sur l'emplacement d'une église plus ancienne qui remonterait au 4e siècle. La construction est achevée à la fin du 15e siècle. En 1530 y est célébré le mariage de François Ier avec Eléonore, soeur de Charles-Quint. Après les guerres de religion, l'église est restaurée de 1590 à 1635. La partie supérieure de la façade, détruite par la foudre, est rétablie en 1745. Les trois portails sculptés de cette façade remontent au 13e siècle. Les chapelles absidiales et les piliers du sanctuaire remontent au début du 14e siècle. Les bas-côtés furent terminés en 1598 et 1599.

History
The building is erected around 1070 then enlarged or rebuilt in the early 13th century by the bishop Arnaud II de Pins on the site of an older church which would date back to the 4th century. The construction is completed at the end of the 15th century. In 1530 the marriage of François Ier to Éléonore, sister of Charles-Quint, is celebrated there. After the Wars of Religion, the church is restored from 1590 to 1635. The upper part of the façade, destroyed by lightning, is restored in 1745. The three sculpted portals of this façade date back to the 13th century. The apsidal chapels and the pillars of the sanctuary date back to the early 14th century. The aisles were completed in 1598 and 1599.
