Historique

History
Presence of a church from the 11th century. The building, with a quadrangular bell tower with a spire to the west, is composed of a main nave flanked by two aisles and terminated by a hemicycle apse preceded by a straight bay. A chapel houses the baptismal fonts to the north-west. The small cubic stone visible in the walls of the first bay of the nave, behind the bell tower, corresponds to the first Romanesque building. The construction campaign of the 12th century led to the reconstruction of the façade and the chevet. From the same period, a portal with four voussoirs opens to the west. Five round arches rest on paired columns. This ensemble of Romanesque design with Saintongeais inspiration was partly modified around 1838, particularly at the level of the sculptured decoration. The insecurity linked to the Hundred Years' War led, in the 14th century, to the fortification of the chevet. The works of 1754 profoundly altered the building: construction of aisles, of the baptismal chapel, installation of interior decoration. The architect Bordes carried out, in 1837-1838, the transformations affecting the western façade: construction of the bell tower, vaulting of the nave... The windows pierced in the aisles in 1864 received stained glass designed by the firm Dagrant of Bordeaux. In 1867, the architect Fautard created the perron preceding the church. In 1897, the painted decoration was completed by the painter Terral.
