Les Anglais, retranchés dans le bois Rudeau, sur le rocher des Bernardières, furent battus par Duguesclin. Antoine d'Authon, seigneur des Bernardières, après avoir vendu son château, bâtit celui des Combes. En 1518, il arme un navire et termine comme pacha d'Alger et amiral de la flotte ottomane sous le nom de Barberousse II en 1546. Le mur d'enceinte est percé d'un portail Henri II. Dans la cour intérieure, tour ronde du 13e siècle, découronnée, reliée par un mur d'enceinte à un donjon carré du 12e siècle. Les terrasses successives sont bordées de balustres Louis XIII. Une porte monumentale de même époque donne sur un escalier enjambant par deux arches un ruisseau.

History
The English, entrenched in Rudeau wood, on the rock of the Bernardières, were defeated by Duguesclin. Antoine d'Authon, seigneur of the Bernardières, after having sold his castle, built that of the Combes. In 1518, he armed a ship and ended his days as pasha of Algiers and admiral of the Ottoman fleet under the name of Barbarossa II in 1546. The enclosing wall is pierced by a Henry II portal. In the inner courtyard, a round tower of the 13th century, stripped of its top, connected by an enclosing wall to a square keep of the 12th century. The successive terraces are bordered by Louis XIII balusters. A monumental door of the same period gives onto a staircase spanning a stream by two arches.
