C'est au 10e siècle que fut élevé sur un promontoire le castrum de Belvés qui enclosait l'actuel jardin de l'hôpital, la cour de l'école, ceints de remparts. Le fort s'étendait à l'ouest jusqu'à la place de la halle et était limité par des remparts se rattachant à la tour de l'horloge, à la tour de l'auditeur ou de l'auditoire puis au porche de la maison de l'archevêque. La tour de l'auditoire est la seule restante des anciennes fortifications. L'ouverture se trouvait au premier étage et la tour comprenait de rares ouvertures. History
It was in the 10th century that there was raised on a promontory the castrum of Belvés which enclosed the present hospital garden, the school courtyard, surrounded by ramparts. The fort extended to the west to the market hall square and was bounded by ramparts connecting to the clock tower, to the auditor's tower or auditory tower then to the porch of the archbishop's house. The auditory tower is the only remaining one of the old fortifications. The opening was found on the first floor and the tower comprised rare openings. The roof was added subsequently.
