Maison en bord de mer, la villa E 1027 occupe sur la côte du cap Martin un site remarquable accessible seulement par un sentier. Elle a été construite de 1926 à 1929 par Eileen Gray (1878-1976) , décoratrice et architecte d'origine irlandaise, pour et avec son ami l'architecte Jean Badovici (1893-1956). En dehors de quelques modifications apportées par Le Corbusier (décor de peintures murales en 1938) , la maison n'a pas subi de transformations. Elle comporte un étage de soubassement et un rez-de-chaussée surélevé ; elle est portée par des pilotis et couverte d'un toit-terrasse accessible ; elle consiste en un bloc central séjour-chambre autour duquel s'articulent terrasses, loggias, atrium, cuisine à cloisons escamotables. L'aménagement intérieur et le mobilier sont réalisés en matériaux modernes (celluloïd, câble acier et tendeurs, fibro-ciment, aluminium et tôle ondulée ripolinée) , suivant les dessins d'Eileen Gray. Ce mobilier a été vendu il y a quelques années, quelques pièces étant acquises par le Musée national d'Art moderne au Centre Georges-Pompidou.

House by the sea, the villa E 1027 occupies on the coast of cap Martin a remarkable site accessible only by a path. It was built from 1926 to 1929 by Eileen Gray (1878-1976), decorator and architect of Irish origin, for and with her friend the architect Jean Badovici (1893-1956). Apart from a few modifications made by Le Corbusier (decoration of mural paintings in 1938), the house has not undergone transformations. It comprises a basement storey and a raised ground floor; it is supported by pilotis and covered with an accessible roof terrace; it consists of a central block living room-bedroom around which are articulated terraces, loggias, atrium, kitchen with folding partitions. The interior arrangement and furnishings are executed in modern materials (celluloid, steel cable and tensioners, fibre cement, aluminium and corrugated sheet ripolin-coated), following the drawings of Eileen Gray. This furnishings was sold a few years ago, a few pieces being acquired by the National Museum of Modern Art at the Centre Georges-Pompidou.
