Kuvaus
Pyhärannan Ylikylä on vanhan Laitilasta merelle johtavan kauppareitin varteen jo keskiajalla syntynyt kylä.
Ylikylä sijaitsee Otajärvestä läpi tasankoalueen kulkevan Ihodenjoen varrella, lähellä sen Mannerveden pohjukkaan laskevaa suuta. Kylän rakennuskanta on 1800-luvulta ja 1900-luvun alkupuolelta. Vanhalla kylätontilla on 1600-luvulta periytyvä Ylikylän entinen pappila, jonka päärakennus on 1880-luvun alusta. Pihapiiriin, jonka nykyasu ja ryhmittely on kehittynyt 1900-luvulla, kuuluu talousrakennuksia ja tien varteen sijoitettu sivurakennus. Pappilaa vastapäätä sijaitsee Impilän kantatalon komea päärakennus frontoneineen ja runsaine listoituksineen.
Historia

Description
The village of Ylikylä in Pyhäranta arose already in the Middle Ages along the old trade route leading from Laitila to the sea.
Ylikylä lies along the Ihodenjoki, which flows from Lake Otajärvi through the plain area, near its mouth at the innermost end of Mannervesi. The village's building stock dates from the 19th century and the early 20th century. On the old village plot is the former Ylikylä parsonage, dating from the 17th century, whose main building is from the early 1880s. The yard, whose present appearance and layout developed in the 20th century, includes farm buildings and a side building placed along the road. Opposite the parsonage stands the handsome main building of Impilä kantatalo, with its pediments and rich mouldings.
History
Ecclesiastically, the Pyhämaa area belonged in the Middle Ages to the mother parish of Laitila, also known as Untamala, and the road leading from Ylikylä inland to Seppälä in Laitila served as the church road of the people of Pyhämaa until the 1630s. It was also one of the most important trade routes from the inland to the coast. Administratively, Pyhämaa belonged for the most part until the mid-17th century to the upper tax district of Petäiset in Uudenkirko.
In 1540 there were nine farms in Ylikylä; according to the silver tax register, there were ten. At the river's mill sites there were six mills in the 1620s, and in Pyhämaan-Pyhärannan historia, Yrjö Hormia described Ylikylä as virtually "myllyjen luvattu maa" (the promised land of mills). Of the holdings that had been deserted in the 1580s, five were restored to peasant settlement, but some were made into crown and church official farms (virkatalot). The Luodo parsonage in Pyhämaa was formed from two deserted farms in 1639. Later a parsonage was also built on Luodo, but the vicars remained living on the mainland. The isojako was carried out in Ylikylä in 1740, after which some of the parent farms moved out of the village site.
