The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Lahden rautatieaseman tuntumaan syntynyt Anttilanmäen tiivis pientaloalue on silloisen kaupungin rajan ulkopuolelle, kaavoittamattomalle maalle syntynyt 1900-luvun alun asuinalue.

Lahden kauppalasta tuli kaupunki 1905. Tärkeimmät esikaupunkialueet olivat tuolloin Anttilanmäki, Tornator ja Kärpäsenkylä. Rautatieaseman eteläpuolelle vapaasti rakentunut, Anttilanmäen sisältävä, Asemataustan esikaupunkialue liitettiin Lahden kaupunkiin 1933.

The compact small-house area of Anttilanmäki, which arose near the Lahti railway station, lies outside the boundary of the town of the time. It is an early 20th-century residential area that grew up on unplanned land.

The residential and outbuildings on the crest and slopes of the fairly steep Anttilanmäki hill, along the road network, together with their yard trees, form a living whole. Despite the unregulated building, the houses of the area form a uniform small-scale whole in terms of scale and building materials. The fairly small residential buildings are located along narrow, winding streets, close to one another. New construction and traffic arrangements have affected the appearance of the area.

The settlement of Anttilanmäki arose in the first half of the 20th century, as people of modest means moved outside the boundaries of the non-independent market town of Lahti, where cheap plots were available.

Anttilanmäki, which had belonged to the parish of Hollola and was unsuitable for cultivation, was divided into leasehold plots, and the detached houses in the area were mainly completed in the 1900-1920s. In addition to housing, small businesses were located around the railway and the station. The Riihimäki-Pietari railway, significant for the location of settlement and industry, was completed in 1869.

The market town of Lahti became a town in 1905. The most important suburban areas at that time were Anttilanmäki, Tornator and Kärpäsenkylä. The Asematausta suburban area, which lay south of the railway station, had grown up freely and included Anttilanmäki, was incorporated into the town of Lahti in 1933.
