The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Oulujoen kirkko on maamme harvoja jugendtyylisiä hirsikirkkoja.

Kaupungin kaakkoispuolella, Vaalantien ja Oulujoen välisellä Kirkkokankaalla sijaitsevan kirkon lähellä Oulujoen rannalla on myös pappila hyvin säilyneessä kulttuurimaisemassa.

Leveärunkoisen kirkon länsipäätyyn liittyy epäsymmetrisesti sijoitettu suippokattoinen torni. Runkohuonetta matalamman sakariston sivuilla on porrastornimaiset sisäänkäynnit.

Kirkon editse kulkevan maantien toisella puolella olevasta hautausmaasta osa on erotettu sankarihautausmaaksi.

Oulujoen seurakunta muodostettiin 1904.

1950-luvulla uusitun alttarialueen järjestely palautettiin arkkitehti Anna-Maija Putkosen (Ylimaula) suunnittelemassa restauroinnissa 1983-1984.

Oulusta eronnut Oulujoen kunta liitettiin lakkauttamisensa jälkeen 1966 jälleen Ouluun.

Oulujoki church is one of the few Jugendstil log churches in our country.

South-east of the town, on Kirkkokangas between Vaalantie and the Oulujoki, near the church, on the bank of the Oulujoki there is also a parsonage in a well-preserved cultural landscape.

A tower with a pointed roof is asymmetrically attached to the west end of the broad-bodied church. On the sides of the sacristy, which is lower than the nave, are entrances resembling stepped towers. The intermediate ceiling of the central part of the church hall rises almost to the height of the ridge of the roof. The interior walls and tie beams are left as exposed logs; the fixed furnishings and interior ceiling are painted white. The altar backdrop structure on the chancel wall contains, unlike Lutheran tradition, a pulpit and the organ above it.

The parsonage on the bank of the Oulujoki, built in 1899, includes, in addition to the main building, a church cottage, stable, granary storehouse and threshing barn. The fence planted at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries of the parsonage consists of spruce and birch plantings. Part of the cemetery on the other side of the main road passing the church has been separated as a war heroes' cemetery.

Oulujoki parish was established in 1904. The drawings of the church designed by architect Viktor Sucksdorff were completed in 1905 and approved by the Senate's Economic Department in 1906. The church was completed in 1908. The building timber was obtained as donations from parishes along the Oulujoki and from parishioners, and was transported to the site by log driving.

The arrangement of the altar area, renewed in the 1950s, was returned in the restoration designed by architect Anna-Maija Putkonen (Ylimaula) in 1983-1984.

Oulujoki municipality, which had separated from Oulu, was merged back into Oulu in 1966 after its dissolution.
