Kuvaus
Oriveden rautatieasema on Tampere-Vaasa radan IV luokan, myöhemmin III luokan asema, jossa on hyvin säilynyt asemarakennus radan rakentamisajalta 1883 sekä monipuolinen asema-alueen rakennuskanta
Rakennukset muodostavat rivistön Asematien varteen Längelmäveden tuntumassa. Asema-alueella on useita asuin- ja talousrakennuksia kuten rivitaloja 1940-luvulta. Veturitalli sijaitsee radan eteläpuolella.
Historia
Tampere-Vaasa -rata linjattiin teollisuuden tarpeita ajatellen.
Asemarakennusta laajennettiin 1910. Muut rakennukset valmistuivat 1900-1942 välisenä aikana. Pistoraide Oriveden satamaan vedettiin 1890.
Oriveden asemalta Päijänteen vesiyhteyksien äärelle kulkevaa rataa alettiin suunnitella 1930-luvun alussa ja Orivesi-Jämsänkoski -radan työt käynnistettiin vuoden 1938 lopussa. Toisen maailmasodan vuoksi lopullinen valmistuminen kesti vuoteen 1953 asti. Radan kustannuksista vastasi valtion lisäksi Yhtyneet Paperitehtaat Oy.
Tampere-Parkano- Seinäjoki -rata valmistui 1971 ja Orivesi jäi syrjään Helsingistä Pohjamaalle johtavalta pääradalta. Oikorata Orivedeltä Jämsän kautta Jyväskylään valmistui 1977.
Moderni ylikulkusilta valmistui 2006.

Description
Orivesi railway station is a Class IV, later Class III, station on the Tampere-Vaasa line, with a well-preserved station building from the construction period of the line in 1883 and a varied building stock in the station area
The buildings form a row along Asematie, near Längelmävesi. The station area includes several residential and outbuildings, such as terraced houses from the 1940s. The engine shed is located south of the line.
History
The Tampere-Vaasa line was routed with industry's needs in mind. The routing and construction of the line, via the east side of Näsijärvi, that is through Orivesi, were influenced by the industrialist Gustaf Adolf Serlachius of Mänttä and the Diet member Agathon Meurman of Kangasala. The line was part of the main line between Helsinki and Ostrobothnia.
The Tampere-Haapamäki line was completed in 1882 and opened for use in the autumn of 1883. In the same year the first of the buildings in the Orivesi station area were completed: the station building, a double watchman's cottage, and of the outbuildings a cellar and a woodshed. The station building was extended in 1910. The other buildings were completed between 1900-1942. A siding to the port of Orivesi was laid in 1890.
Planning of a line from Orivesi station towards the water connections of Päijänne began in the early 1930s, and work on the Orivesi-Jämsänkoski line started at the end of 1938. Because of the Second World War, final completion took until 1953. In addition to the state, Yhtyneet Paperitehtaat Oy was responsible for the costs of the line.
The Tampere-Parkano-Seinäjoki line was completed in 1971, and Orivesi was left aside from the main line leading from Helsinki to Ostrobothnia. The shortcut from Orivesi via Jämsä to Jyväskylä was completed in 1977.
A modern overpass was completed in 2006.
