The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Tunkelon Isotalon poikkeuksellisen suuri, hyvin säilynyt uusrenessanssipäärakennus on poikkeuksellinen esimerkki 1800-luvun lopun vauraasta talonpoikaisrakentamisesta ja talonpoikaissäädyn valtiopäivämiehen asumiskulttuurista.

Tunkelon kylän laaja viljelyaukea sijaitsee kapean Tunkelonlahden luoteisrannalla. Metsänrajassa on Tunkelon Isotalon ja Mattilan tilakeskukset.

Tunkelon Isotalon tilakokonaisuuden rakennuksista merkittävin on poikkeuksellinen, hirsirakenteinen päärakennus isoine pirtteineen.

Tunkelo eli Isotalo on osa Tunkelon ratsutilaa. Ratsutila toimi 1600-luvulla nimismiehentalona. Tunkelon Isotalo syntyi kun kantatila lohkottiin 1739. Isotalon päärakennuksen rakennutti 1869-1873 talonpoikaissäädyn valtiopäivämies Elias August Ekman (valtiopäivävuodet 1880, 1904-1906). Isotalon päärakennuksen rakentamisesta vastasi pohjalainen rakennusmestari Holm. Koristeellinen ulkovuoraus tehtiin 1880-luvun alussa.

The exceptionally large, well-preserved neo-Renaissance main building of Tunkelo Isotalo is an exceptional example of prosperous peasant building of the late 19th century and of the living culture of a Diet member of the Peasant Estate.

The broad cultivated clearing of Tunkelo village lies on the northwestern shore of the narrow Tunkelonlahti bay. At the forest edge are the farm centres of Tunkelo Isotalo and Mattila.

The most important of the buildings in the Tunkelo Isotalo farm complex is the exceptional, log-built main building with its large pirtit. The two-storey main building, measuring 10 metres wide and 40 metres long externally, is one of the largest main farm buildings built in Finland at the end of the 19th century. It is clad in the neo-Renaissance style, and a dinner bell rises above the high cross-ridge. Since its completion, only minor changes have been made to the exterior of the building, which is in residential use. The yard contains old log granary storehouses and an early lohkokivinavetta.

The Tunkelo main farm in Längelmäki was, as usual there, a single farmstead. Tunkelo, or Isotalo, is part of the Tunkelo horse farm. The horse farm served as a nimismies farm in the 17th century. Tunkelo Isotalo came into being when the main farm was divided in 1739. The main building of Isotalo was built in 1869-1873 by Elias August Ekman, a Diet member of the Peasant Estate (Diet years 1880, 1904-1906). The construction of Isotalo's main building was overseen by Ostrobothnian master builder Holm. The decorative exterior cladding was made in the early 1880s.
