The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Toivonojan kartano on edustavimpia esimerkkejä 1800-luvun lopulla ilmenevästä, taloudelliseen noususuhdanteeseen liittyvästä kartanorakentamisesta.

Toivonoja manor is one of the most representative examples of manor building from the end of the 19th century, linked to an economic upswing.

Toivonoja manor lies on the western shore of the narrow lake Sylvöjärvi, in an agricultural landscape that opens north of Salpausselkä. The large main building is oriented north-south. The rendered outbuildings and servants' quarters form their own group along the road that cuts through the fields. Around the main building is a park extending to the lake and the shoreline fields, including a playhouse that follows the style of the main building.

The characteristic features of the architectural style are the asymmetry of the building volume, its considerable proportions, and abundant façade mouldings and projections. The interiors are characterised by abundant, strongly coloured wall and ceiling paintings with picture and ornament motifs inherited from the Renaissance, tall double doors with moulded fittings, and large, richly decorated tiled stoves.

The Sipilä rustholli, part of the Uudenkylä farms, was divided in 1783 into the Toivonoja and Sipilä farms. The farm centre of Toivonoja manor was established on the western shore of Sylvöjärvi, north of the village.

The main building of Toivonoja is from the early 19th century, but its present form, exterior and interiors were carried out in the 1870s to designs by Florentin Granholm. The owner of the manor during the repairs of the 1870s was barrister Viktor Leonard af Forselles. The rendered cowshed and stable buildings were built in the 1910s.

The manor building and park were restored in 2001.
