Kuvaus
Gulfin bensiiniaseman julkisivua hallitsee mittarikatos, jonka alta bensiinipumput on poistettu alkuperäisen käytön loputtua. Näissä rakennuksissa on nykyisin mm. kierrätyskeskus, varastotiloja, myymälä ja kahvio. Korttelin neljäs rakennus on Veikko Kallion suunnittelema 1938 ja siinä on toiminut nuorisotalo.
Entinen Autotuonnin toimipaikka on linja-autoaseman ja jakeluasemien tavoin funktionalistinen. Kaksikerroksisen rakennuksen pohjoisseinustalla on entinen bensiininmittarikatos.
Linja-autoliikennöitsijät ehdottivat 1930-luvun lopulla kaupungille uuden keskitetyn aseman rakentamista.

Description
Tampere bus station is an example of a new building type representative of the growth of motor traffic in the early 20th century and the emergence of bus stations. At the time of its completion, the building was the largest and most up-to-date of its kind in Finland and perhaps also in the Nordic countries. The station's low complex consists of a waiting hall, a goods-handling wing and a business wing. The simplified building, functionalist in style and rendered in light colour, has strip windows and partly rounded corners.
In the adjacent so-called Vuoltsu block are functionalist buildings built at the same time to serve city motor traffic, which are also related to the bus station in terms of townscape. The Vuoltsu block contains, among others, the former distribution stations of four different petrol companies. The former two-storey Gulf and Esso petrol stations are by Bertel Strömmer, and the former three-storey Teboil station was designed by Heikki Tiitola. The façade of the Gulf petrol station is dominated by a meter canopy, beneath which the petrol pumps have been removed after the original use ended. These buildings now house, among other things, a recycling centre, storage space, a shop and a café. The fourth building in the block was designed by Veikko Kallio in 1938, and it has housed a youth centre.
The former Autotuonti premises, like the bus station and the distribution stations, is functionalist. On the north wall of the two-storey building is a former petrol meter canopy. The corner of the building at Vuolteenkatu and Ratinankuja is rounded, as are the bus station and the adjacent petrol distribution points.
History
The number of cars increased, and the number of roads in use multiplied many times over from the 1920s to the 1930s. Bus traffic developed in step with the improvement of road conditions. Finland's first bus left on the route between Turku and Uudenkaupunki in 1905. Bus services had no permanent stops or stations until the operators organised themselves to build a network of station offices in 1928. The city of Tampere was the first to be brought into the project. The station included platforms and, in the station area, the petrol companies' petrol distribution stations and canopies. In 1933 a separate company, Matkahuolto, was founded to manage bus station operations. The dynamic, streamlined forms of functionalism suited the image of the new bus stations. At the end of the 1930s, Matkahuolto had 36 bus stations.
Tampere, unlike Finland's other largest cities, was never given a tramway, and buses therefore gained a significant role as the first public transport vehicle. The newly founded Linja-autoliikennöitsijäin liitto sent the city board an application in autumn 1928 for heated waiting shelters for bus passengers. The city board assigned the architecture department of the building office to look into the matter, and the petrol producers, who had requested permission to move their petrol stations to the planned bus station sites, also joined the negotiations.
In 1929 two bus stations were opened in Tampere a little outside the city, one for traffic heading east and one for traffic heading west. At the end of the 1930s, the bus operators proposed to the city the construction of a new centralised station. Bertel Strömmer designed the Tampere bus station building in 1938, assisted by Jaakko Laaksovirta and Reino Ahjopalo. The bus station handled passenger and freight traffic for the whole urban area. Later, by 1950, the bus station was raised and a hiking hostel (retkeilymaja) was placed on its upper floor.
Architect Bertel Strömmer designed two of the four petrol stations next to the station in 1939. Heikki Tiitola designed the former Teboil station in 1938, and Veikko Kallio designed the building used as an office and storehouse in 1938.
Veikko Kallio designed the Autotuonti premises as a sales and service building for Tampereen Autotuonti Oy in 1937-1938; to his plans the building was also raised to two storeys in 1961. This building too originally had a petrol station in the north corner.
