The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Janakkalan Turengin asema on Tikkurilan ohella - monet yksityiskohdat jo menettäneenäkin - parhaiten alkuperäisasussaan säilynyt asemarakennus Helsinki-Hämeenlinna -radalla. Molemmat ovat arkkitehti C.A.

Asemarakennuksen lisäksi asema-alueella on säilynyt yksi asuinrakennus 1910-luvulta.

Turenki station in Janakkala, alongside Tikkurila, is the station building on the Helsinki-Hämeenlinna line that has best preserved its original form, although many of its details have already been lost. Both were designed by architect C.A. Edelfelt and represent the earliest station architecture in our country. The station building also has an exceptionally well-preserved interior.

The tower and porch on the yard side of the station building have been demolished. By contrast, the wooden platform canopy, now already rare, has survived and was restored in 1999. In addition to the station building, one residential building from the 1910s has survived in the station area.

Finland's first railway was completed in 1862 to connect Helsinki and Hämeenlinna. One of the stations on the line was built at Turenki in Janakkala. Turengi railway station and the Leppäkoski track master's house were completed in 1862.

During the planning of the line, Turenki was considered a possible junction station for the future Pietari line, and with this in mind a large station was built at Turenki. Later, however, Riihimäki was chosen as the junction station instead. The decision slowed the growth of Turengi as a station settlement, but nevertheless it was a busy station from the 1920s onwards. Turengin Saha ja Mylly Oy was founded at Turenki in 1906, and an electricity works was established in connection with it, from which the whole community received its electricity from 1912 onwards.
