Kuvaus
Kaksikerroksinen liiketalo on tyyppiesimerkki SOK:laisesta, Erkki Huttusen kehittämästä tyylipuhtaasta funktionalistisesta osuuskaupparakentamisesta.
Erik Bryggmanin suunnittelema Sauvon apteekki on nyansoidumpaa funktionalismia.
Sauvon Osuukauppa Aitta valmistui 1933. Osuuskunta Aitta lopetti toimintansa rakennuksessa 1960-luvun lopulla.

Description
The Sauvo kirkonkylä co-operative store and pharmacy are good examples of the modernist influence on Finnish church villages in the 1930s, and of the aim to establish modern architecture and building technology also in the built environment of the countryside. The buildings belong to a selection of masterpieces of Finnish modernism, from the late 1920s to the 1970s, accepted by the international DOCOMOMO organisation.
Sauvo Osuuskauppa Aitta is the first stone building in the kirkonkylä after the medieval church. The two-storey commercial building is a typical example of SOK-style, stylistically pure functionalist co-operative store construction, developed by Erkki Huttunen.
The Sauvo apteekki designed by Erik Bryggman is more nuanced functionalism. The building, which has a monopitch roof and a rendered finish, originally housed, in addition to the shop, the pharmacist's private residence, which is located in the two-storey part of the building.
History
The Finnish Co-operative Act (Osuustoimintalaki) was enacted in 1901, and hundreds of small cooperative stores were established within a few years. To guide their construction, cooperative store associations set up their own design offices, and the cooperative stores acquired a uniform architectural appearance. The building department of SOK was headed by Erkki Huttunen, assisted by Valde Aulanko and Paavo Riihimäki.
Sauvon Osuukauppa Aitta was completed in 1933. Osuuskunta Aitta ceased its operations in the building at the end of the 1960s. Sauvon Apteekki was built as a pharmacy and residential building by the pharmacist Åke Schoultz, and it was completed in 1935. Pharmacy operations ended in 1972.
