The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Naapurinvaaran kylä on kylä- ja maisemarakenteeltaan kainuulaisen vaarakylän erinomainen edustaja.

Vaarakylä on keskittynyt Nuasjärven pohjoisrannalta nousevan Naapurinvaaran laelle. Vaaran rinteet ovat ilmastollisesti maanviljelykselle edullisia. Talot sijaitsevat nauhamaisesti kylätien varsilla. Rakennuskanta on osin sotien jälkeiseltä ajalta, mutta maisemakuvaan hyvin soveltuvaa.

Viljapeltojen lisäksi kylän avoin maisema muodostuu hakamaista ja laitumista. Kylästä on vaikuttavat näköalat Vuokatin vaaroille ja Sotkamon kirkon suuntaan sekä pohjoisessa avautuviin loputtomiin metsiin.

Naapurinvaara on valtakunnallisesti arvokas maisema-alue.

Naapurinvaara village is an excellent representative of the Kainuu vaarakylä in terms of its village and landscape structure.

The vaarakylä is concentrated on the summit of Naapurinvaara, which rises from the northern shore of Nuasjärvi. The slopes of the vaara are climatically favourable for agriculture. The houses are located in a linear arrangement along the village road. The building stock is partly from the post-war period, but well suited to the landscape view.

In addition to grain fields, the open landscape of the village consists of hakamaat and pastures. From the village there are impressive views of the Vuokatti vaarat and towards Sotkamo church, as well as of the endless forests opening to the north.

Naapurinvaara is a nationally valuable landscape area.

Naapurinvaara in the Sotkamo area, one of the oldest settlement areas in Kainuu, had permanent settlement as early as the 16th and 17th centuries. Its location along the important Oulujoki waterway shaped the area into a harbour and crossroads site. In the 19th century, at the peak period of tar burning, the village of Naapurinvaara had about ten farms as well as a few crofts and smaller holdings.
