Kuvaus
Historia
Ajatus Kainuun yhdistämisestä rataverkkoon Joensuusta käsin oli herännyt katovuosien viljankuljetuksen yhteydessä 1880-luvulla. Joensuun rata eteni Nurmekseen asti 1911 ja jatkoyhteyttä Kontiomäelle ryhdyttiin rakentamaan 1918. Lopullinen rakennusvaihe pääsi alkamaan vasta 1924 ja Sotkamon asema valmistui seuraavana vuonna. Aseman nimi muutettiin pian Vuokatiksi.

Description
The Vuokatti railway station area, on the section between Nurmes and Kontiomäki, with its red buildings, is a uniform and well-preserved example of railway construction in the 1920s.
The station is in a very scenic location. In addition to the station building, the verdant station area includes two residential buildings with outbuildings, as well as a resiina shed, a goods storehouse and an engine shed. The Vuokatti settlement, now known for sport and tourism, grew up on and around the station.
History
The idea of connecting Kainuu to the rail network from Joensuu arose in the 1880s, in connection with grain transport during years of crop failure. The Joensuu line reached Nurmes in 1911, and construction of the extension to Kontiomäki began in 1918. The final construction phase only began in 1924, and Sotkamo station was completed the following year. The station's name was soon changed to Vuokatti.
