Kuvaus
Historia
Haukiputaaseen kuuluneessa Pateniemessä harjoitettiin laivanrakennusta 1600-luvulla. Vuonna 1857 oululaiset liikemiehet perustivat Pateniemen suuren laivaveistämön eli Uleåborgs Stora Skeppsvarv- och Rederibolagin. Kauppaneuvos J.G. Bergbomin omistukseen laivavarvi siirtyi huutokaupan myötä 1865 ja kauppaneuvos perusti alueelle kaksiraamisen höyrysahan 1873. Saha yhdistyi kolmen muun sahan kanssa 1912 Ab Uleå Oy:n suursahaksi ja 1935 Pateniemen saha siirtyi Oulu Oy:lle. Suurimmillaan saha työllisti yli 1000 henkilöä 1940- ja 1950-lukujen taitteessa. Pateniemi liitettiin Oulun kaupunkiin 1965.
Sahan omistajaksi 1986 tullut Veitsiluoto Oy lopetti sahauksen 1990.

Description
The community of the former Pateniemi steam sawmill, one of the oldest and most significant in our country, consists of office, assembly and residential buildings of various ages. Although the sawmill's production buildings have been destroyed by fire, the sawmill community grouped along the street has still preserved its distinctive character well.
A pylväshaapakuja leads to the sawmill area. At the end of Sahatie are two sawmill office buildings dating from the 1880s and 1910s, and the so-called Nikkaripirtti, built in the 1850s, which houses the Pateniemi Sawmill Museum, a specialist museum of the Pohjois-Pohjanmaan maakuntamuseo. Along the access road there is also a former canteen building. In the 1950s, among other things, a fire station and the Honkapirtti were built on the sawmill site as hobby and meeting spaces for workers. The two-storey mansard-roofed residential buildings date from the 1920s to 1940s; originally they were four-family residential buildings with outbuildings. Some of them were moved from the Varjakka sawmill, and some were built in the 1930s to the same drawings.
History
Shipbuilding was carried on at Pateniemi, which had belonged to Haukipudas, in the 17th century. In 1857 Oulu businessmen founded the Pateniemi large shipyard, that is Uleåborgs Stora Skeppsvarv- och Rederibolagin. The shipyard passed to the ownership of Commercial Counsellor J.G. Bergbom through an auction in 1865, and the Commercial Counsellor established a two-frame steam sawmill on the site in 1873. In 1912 the sawmill merged with three other sawmills to form the large sawmill of Ab Uleå Oy, and in 1935 the Pateniemi sawmill passed to Oulu Oy. At its peak the sawmill employed over 1000 people, at the turn of the 1940s and 1950s. Pateniemi was incorporated into the city of Oulu in 1965.
Veitsiluoto Oy, which became the owner of the sawmill in 1986, ended sawing operations in 1990. The timber-built large sawmill building at Pateniemi, dating from 1907, and the brick power station beside it were destroyed in a fire in 1995.
