Kuvaus
Heinolan Perspektiivi, nykyinen Maaherranpuisto, on 1785 asemakaavaan merkityn maaherran residenssin keskeinen kaupunkitila. Uuden, vastaperustetun hallintokaupungin edustavaksi asemakaavalliseksi ratkaisuksi toteutettu Perspektiivi on Suomen ensimmäisiä uudentyyppisiä julkisia puistoalueita.
Perspektiivin toisena päätepisteenä on nykyinen Heinolan kylpyläpuisto ja toisena seminaarin alue. Puistokadun (nyk. Maaherrankatu) varrella on säilynyt yksi lääninhallinnon virkamiehille varatuille tonteille rakennetuista 1700-luvun lopun taloista, Lääninkivalteri Aschanin talo puutarhoineen. Heinolan kaupunginmuseon käytössä olevat puurakennukset sijaitsevat Maaherrankadun varrella, aivan puiston vieressä.
Heinolan Perspektiivi on Vaasan Hovioikeudenpuistikon ohella toinen Suomessa 1700-luvun lopulla toteutetuista merkittävistä puistosommitelmista. Puiston nykyinen asu on 1800-luvun lopulta.
Maaherranpuistikkoon liittyvät Jyrängönkosken rannalla 1800-luvun loppupuolella perustetut Kylpyläpuisto, Rantapuisto ja Heinolan satama. Residenssiajalta Rantapuistossa ovat säilyneet entisen maaherran puutarhan huvimajat, joista vanhempi on 1830-luvulta.
Historia
Kymenkartanon läänin hallinto siirrettiin Heinolaan 1776. Ensimmäinen asemakaava laadittiin 1779. Maaherra de Geer laati 1785 uuden asemakaavan, jossa vanhempaa kaavaa täydennettiin leveällä puistokadulla, Perspektiivillä. Jyrängön virran puoleiseen päähän Perspektiiviä suunniteltiin lääninresidenssiä, mikä ei kuitenkaan toteutunut. Perspektiiviä rajaavat tontit varattiin lääninhallinnon virkamiehille.
Perspektiivin rannan puoleisessa päässä sijaitsevan Kylpyläpuiston rakentaminen alkoi 1879. Puiston päätteenä oleva Heinolan satama perustettiin 1860. Laiturirakennelmat ja makasiini valmistuivat vuosina 1906-1907. Heinolan kylpylä perustettiin 1891 ja alkuperäisen kylpylän korvannut kivirakenteinen kylpylärakennus valmistui 1931 arkkitehti W.G. Palmqvistin suunnitelmin. Kylpylän perustamiseen liittyi seuraavana vuonna alkanut sataman ja sillan välisen mutaisen ranta-alueen muokkaaminen Rantapuistoksi.

Description
Heinolan Perspektiivi, now Maaherranpuisto, is the central urban space of the governor's residence marked on the 1785 town plan. Perspektiivi, laid out as the representative town-planning solution for the new, newly founded administrative town, is one of the first new-type public park areas in Finland.
One end point of the Perspektiivi is the present-day Heinolan kylpyläpuisto, and the other is the seminary area. Along Puistokatu (now Maaherrankatu) has survived one of the houses from the end of the 18th century, built on plots reserved for provincial administration officials: the Lääninkivalteri Aschanin talo with its garden. The wooden buildings used by the Heinolan kaupunginmuseo are located along Maaherrankatu, right next to the park.
Alongside the Vaasan Hovioikeudenpuistikko, Heinolan Perspektiivi is the second of the significant park compositions realised in Finland at the end of the 18th century. The park's present form dates from the end of the 19th century.
Connected to the Maaherranpuistikko, on the shore of the Jyrängönkoski, are the Kylpyläpuisto, Rantapuisto and Heinolan satama, established in the latter part of the 19th century. From the residence period, the garden pavilions of the former governor's garden have survived in Rantapuisto, the older of which dates from the 1830s.
History
The administration of Kymenkartano County was moved to Heinola in 1776. The first town plan was drawn up in 1779. Governor de Geer drew up a new town plan in 1785, in which the older plan was supplemented by a wide boulevard, Perspektiivi. At the end of Perspektiivi facing the Jyrängön virta, a provincial residence was planned, but it was never built. The plots bordering Perspektiivi were reserved for officials of the provincial administration.
Kylpyläpuisto, located at the end of Perspektiivi facing the shore, began to be built in 1879. Heinola harbour, which terminates the park, was established in 1860. The quay structures and the storehouse were completed in 1906-1907. Heinola spa was founded in 1891, and the stone-built spa building that replaced the original spa was completed in 1931 to designs by architect W.G. Palmqvist. The founding of the spa was accompanied the following year by the reshaping of the muddy shoreline between the harbour and the bridge into Rantapuisto.
