Kuvaus
Kalannin keskiaikainen kivikirkko Pietari Henrikinpojan (Petrus Henriksson) 1470-luvun alussa tekemine kalkkimaalauksineen on maamme keskiaikaisen kirkkotaiteen merkittävimpiä kohteita.
Kirkon ympärillä olevan laajan hautausmaan länsipuolella on säilynyt kuusiaidan rajaama hautasaattojen lähtöpaikka ruumiskivineen.
Historia

Description
The medieval stone church of Kalanni, with the lime-wash paintings of Petrus Henriksson from the early 1470s, is one of the most important sites of medieval church art in our country. The uncovering of the lime-wash paintings that covered the wall and vault surfaces in 1884 was the first restoration work in our country.
The stone church, dedicated to St Olaf, has a roof pitch that has been lowered, and at the west gable is a low, bell-tower-like west tower ending in an onion dome. The nave is three-aisled and four-bayed. The lime-wash paintings covering the wall and vault surfaces can be dated, by the coats of arms in them, to the early 1470s. The paintings do not follow a clear theological programme; they are individual pictorial scenes, several of which include a coat of arms relating to the donor. The painter's name 'Petrus Henriksson pictor', contained in the paintings, has given cause to speak of the Petrus Henriksson or Kalanni school in connection with similar paintings. The Barbara altarpiece by Meister Francke of Hamburg, the most important medieval altar cabinet in Finland, and the bench ends that belonged to the church's interior fittings have been placed in the Kansallismuseo.
On the west side of the extensive churchyard surrounding the church, a spruce hedge encloses the starting point of funeral processions, with its bier stones preserved.
History
The Kalanni area was densely settled already in the Iron Age. The parish is thought to have been formed at the end of the 14th century and was known as Uusikirkko from 1411 to 1936. The oldest parts of the medieval Kalanni church are the sacristy, and the lower part of the west tower is probably contemporary with the nave. The wooden upper part of the tower was completed in 1779. The brick portals and fixed interior fittings were completed in the restoration designed by architect C. J. von Heideken in 1884. During that work the lime-wash paintings that had been covered were uncovered and restored, which was the first restoration of medieval lime-wash paintings in Finland. The paintings were cleaned and restored again in 1965-1968.
