The Finnish Heritage Agency's description

Ruotsalan kylä on säilyttänyt sarkajaon aikaisen perusrakenteensa mäen kumpareelle sijoittuvana ryhmäkylänä. Vuosisatoja viljelyksessä olleen peltoaukean ympäröimän kylän rakennuskanta kuvastaa vaurasta länsisuomalaista rakennusperinnettä: Länsi-Suomen kylille ominainen vauraus ja sosiaalinen kerrostuneisuus näkyy kookkaissa, vaaleaksi maalatuissa päärakennuksissa sekä vanhuksille, karjanhoitajille ja muonamiehille pystytetyissä rakennuksissa.

Ruotsalan keskiaikainen kylätontti sijoittuu pitkänomaiselle mäenkumpareelle. Mäkeä ympäröivä viljelyskelpoinen maa on saatu siten mahdollisimman laajasti hyötykäyttöön jo keskiajalla. Knaapin tilalla asuinrakennuksia on kolme.

Kosken) kartano, jonka talouskeskus sijaitsee isojaon aikaisella tontilla.

Varhaisin tieto Ruotsalan kylästä on 1300-luvulta. Kylän kantatilat Hänti (nyk. Hentu), Knaapi, Lauri (nyk.

Ruotsala village has retained its basic structure from the sarkajako period as a clustered village situated on a hill knoll. The building stock of the village, surrounded by an open field that has been under cultivation for centuries, reflects the prosperous West Finnish building tradition: The prosperity and social stratification characteristic of Western Finland's villages are visible in the large, light-coloured main buildings and in buildings erected for elderly people, cattle herders and muonamies.

The medieval village site of Ruotsala is situated on an elongated hill knoll. The arable land surrounding the hill was already put to as extensive use as possible in the Middle Ages. The building stock of Ruotsala dates mainly from the 19th century and the early 20th century. The main buildings are situated on the west side of the village road, with the farm buildings on the east side. Of the parent farms, Knaapi, Hentu and Laurila are located side by side on the village hill, while Viisas has relocated to the hill north of them, where there were four crofts at the time of the isojako. In addition to the main building, each farm's buildings include a second residential building, the so-called piharakennus. The Knaapi farm has three residential buildings.

The undulating field landscape of Ruotsala village continues into the villages of Järvi and Koski, located to its west and south. The parent farms of Järvi village, Manni, Tapani and Mölkkäri, are still located closely together on the village hill, south of which lies Ylisjärvi with its shoreline meadows. Near the northern end of Ylisjärvi is the Eriksberg (formerly Koski) manor, whose farm centre is located on a site dating from the isojako.

The earliest information about the village of Ruotsala dates from the 14th century. The village's founding farms, Hänti (now Hentu), Knaapi, Lauri (now Laurila) and Viisas, were mentioned in the 1540 Turun lääni land register. Before the isojako carried out in 1796, the farm centres were closed yards, each comprising separate people's and livestock yards. After the isojako, the Viisas farmyard moved out of the village, and the closed yards opened up when the cattle shelters were relocated to the east side of the village road.
