Kuvaus
Ilmasotakoulun alueen istutussuunnitelmat korostavat alueen aksiaalisuutta.
Ilmasotakoulun kaikki 1920- ja 1930-luvun rakennukset ja istutukset on suunniteltu puolustusministeriön rakennusosastolla Torsten Elovaaran johdolla, arkkitehtien Elsa Arokallio, Ragnar Ypyä, Martta Martikainen ja Aulis Blomstedt toimesta.
Historia
Rakennustoiminta jatkui 1930-luvulla, jolloin rakennuksiin, mm. oppilasasuntolaan, tuli funktionalismin piirteitä.
Ilmavoimien Ilmailukoulu siirtyi Santahaminasta Kauhavalle 1929 ja muutettiin 1938 Ilmasotakouluksi. Nimi vaihdettiin 2005 Lentosotakouluksi.
Vuonna 2014 Lentosotakoulun alue myytiin valtiolta yksityiseen omistukseen ja Lentosotakoulun toiminta siirtyi pois Kauhavalta.

Description
The Kauhava Air Force Academy is well preserved and a model example of barracks architecture from the early decades of independence. Together with the Immola in Imatra and the Utti garrison in Kouvola, it represents the barracks of a new arm, the air force, built in the 1930s.
The Air Force Academy area on the northern edge of the Kauhava urban centre consists of a central area serving training, and residential areas for officers and NCOs with clubs.
The north–south oriented buildings of the 1920s form three groups: the Linna, the aircraft hangars and the headquarters. The 1930s buildings are oriented east–west and freely arranged in accordance with functionalist zoning principles. The planting plans of the Air Force Academy area emphasise its axiality.
All the 1920s and 1930s buildings and plantings of the Air Force Academy were designed at the building department of the Ministry of Defence under the direction of Torsten Elovaara, by architects Elsa Arokallio, Ragnar Ypyä, Martta Martikainen and Aulis Blomstedt.
History
The period after independence in Finland was a time of intense defence industry development and construction of new barracks. The Kauhava Air Force Academy was part of the large Air Force construction project carried out in the 1920s and 1930s, which included, in addition to the Air Force Academy, seven airfields and an aircraft factory.
After independence in 1918, the air force school, which had operated in various locations, was centralised at Santahamina, where conditions were however limited. The decision to move the flying school from Santahamina to the Pohjanmaan rata railway, to the church village of Kauhava, was made in 1924. Strategic reasons influenced the choice of site: the Air Force training centre was to be located in the western part of the country. In addition, the choice of site was influenced by the extensive open fields of South Ostrobothnia and the railway, which facilitated the construction and servicing of the airfield. Construction work on the field and barracks buildings began in 1926.
The Kauhava airfield was operational the following year, and the first-phase buildings were completed in 1929, built under contract by Pyramid Oy. The town plan and first-phase buildings, including the Linna building group, the headquarters building, residential buildings and aircraft shelters, represented 1920s classicism. Construction continued in the 1930s, when functionalist features appeared in the buildings, including the cadet dormitory.
The Ilmavoimien Ilmailukoulu moved from Santahamina to Kauhava in 1929 and was changed to Ilmasotakoulu in 1938. The name was changed to Lentosotakoulu in 2005.
In 2014 the Lentosotakoulu area was sold by the state into private ownership, and the activities of the Lentosotakoulu moved away from Kauhava.
