Kuvaus
Haapaveden kotitalousoppilaitos on Suomen ensimmäinen tytöille tarkoitettu talouskoulu. Koulun eri-ikäiset rakennukset yhdessä naapuripihapiirien kanssa muodostavat tiiviin rakennusryhmän
viljelysten keskellä.
Haapaveden kotitalousoppilaitos sijaitsee Haapaveden kirkonkylän itäpuolella, Haapajärveen viettävällä rinteellä Mustikkamäen viljelysaukean keskellä.
Arkkitehti Wivi Lönnin suunnittelema vanha koulurakennus vuodelta 1911. Kaksikerroksisen huvilamaisen rakennuksen arkkitehtuurissa näkyy jugendin tyylipiirteitä. Vanhaan koulurakennukseen liittyy alkuperäinen muotopuutarha, josta avautuu kaunis näkymä alas järvelle. Oppilaitokseen kuuluu 300 ha opetustila. Koulun rakennuksiin kuuluu lisäksi mm. kolme vanhaa aittaa.
Historia
Nykyiselle paikalleen koulu siirtyi 1906, jolloin Nora Pöyhönen osti Alamaan tilan. Wivi Lönn suunnitteli koulurakennuksen lisäksi myös koulun huonekalut. Koulun rinteeseen kasvatettiin mm. kuusiaita suojaamaan istutuksia.

Description
The Haapavesi home economics institution is the first school in Finland intended for girls. The institution's buildings of different ages, together with the neighbouring courtyards, form a compact group of buildings in the middle of cultivated fields.
The Haapavesi home economics institution is located east of the Haapavesi church village, on a slope descending towards Haapajärvi, in the middle of the Mustikkamäki cultivated clearing.
The old school building of 1911, designed by architect Wivi Lönn. The architecture of this two-storey villa-like building shows features of Jugend style. The old school building has an original formal garden, from which there is a beautiful view down to the lake. The institution includes 300 ha of teaching land. The school's buildings also include, among others, three old granary storehouses.
History
Ruustinna Nora Pöyhönen (née Europaeus) founded a cookery school and a botanical garden at the Haapavesi parsonage in 1893. Pöyhönen was a significant reformer in the field of horticulture, and at the start of the school she produced her own textbook on plant care and agriculture. The teaching programme of the cookery school consisted mainly of preparing vegetable dishes and knowledge of nutrients. Pöyhönen received support for establishing the school from the Oulu Province Economic Society and from the director of the Agricultural Board, J. Gripenberg.
The school moved to its present site in 1906, when Nora Pöyhönen bought the Alamaa farm. In addition to the school building, Wivi Lönn also designed the school's furniture. Among other things, spruce hedges were planted on the school slope to protect the plantings. The school park was a sight in the 1920s and 1930s.
The state bought the school in 1955, and in the 1970s a new main building was built for the school. The school was transferred to the Siika-Pyhäjoki joint municipal authority for vocational education in 1995, and its name changed to Haapavesi home economics and social services educational institution. In 2000 the school's name changed to Nora, the service and nature sector unit of the Haapavesi vocational institution.
