Kuvaus
Raitista erkanevan tien päässä järven rannalla on Haapaveden vanha pappila 1600-luvun lopulta periytyvällä paikalla.
Historia

Description
The natural alignment of the Vanhatie raitti running through the Haapavesi church village, following the slope, and its uniform building stock in scale together form a representative ensemble that reflects the development that took place in the church villages of our country at the end of the 19th century and in the early 20th century. Along the raitti are concentrated a number of the church village's main farmsteads, villa-like residences of parish officials, and public and commercial buildings with their courtyards.
In the western part of the raitti, notable for their building stock and surroundings, are, among others, the Mäkitalo farmhouse from the 1910s, the Käräjäoja house dating from 1903, the Castrén house from the 1930s, and the Einola official's house, which has been the residence and office building of land surveying engineer Gestrin. In the central part of the raitti, in the so-called Tähtelä area, are located, in addition to the old Tähtelä coaching inn, the intact courtyard of the Kauppinen merchant's manor dating from 1865, the Jyring courtyard, a school museum housed in the former municipal hall, and a two-storey bank building. In the eastern part of the raitti are the Myyrilä doctor's house from the 1920s, Rauhaniemi with its courtyards and tree-lined avenues, Rauhala, Leppälahti from the 1920s, the Karvonen house from the 1930s, Kumpula and the Sane house. Rauhaniemi, Rauhala and the Sane house have been official's houses. The newest building stock, the commercial and administrative buildings of the central core, breaks the traditional scale and village structure.
At the end of a road branching off the raitti, on the lake shore, is the old Haapavesi parsonage, on a site dating from the late 17th century.
History
Permanent settlement in the Haapavesi church village area became established after the mid-16th century; the village of Haapavesi (formerly known as Pyhäjoen Haapajärvi) had four farms in 1546. A church was built on the northern shore of Haapajärvi in the 1690s, and a parsonage in its vicinity, which still stands on the same site today.
Haapavesi became ecclesiastically and administratively independent of Pyhäjoki in 1863-1866. With the creation of municipal administration and the liberalization of the land trade, residences of municipal officials and shops began to concentrate along Vanhatie, the main road of the church village.
