Kuvaus
Rantsilan kirkonkylässä on säilynyt 1900-luvun alkupuolen kirkonkylille tyypillinen rakenne ja rakennuskantaa Siikajokea seurailevan maantien varressa.
Kirkonkylän julkiset rakennukset ja asuinrakennukset ovat on tiiviinä nauhana Siikajoen itärannan harjanteella joen suuntaisen vanhan maantien varressa. Kirkko on harjanteen laella Toppilankankaalla. Kirkonkylän julkisista rakennuksista mainittakoon keisari Aleksanteri II:n mukaan nimetty koulu, manttaalikunnan lainajyvämakasiini ja matkustajakoti. Lainamakasiini on toiminut suojeluskuntatalona, seurakuntatalona ja kotiseutumuseona. Jokirannassa on ajalleen tyypillinen, 1920-luvulla valmistunut meijeri. Betonirakenteinen, valkeaksi rapattu rakennus on säilyttänyt hyvin alkuperäisen asunsa. Rakennuskanta on muuten osin vaatimatonta tai uusiutunutta.
Hongikossa seisovassa pohjakaavaltaan tasavartisessa ristikirkossa on ristivarsien päistä aumattu vesikatto. Ristikeskuksessa on vesikaton sisäjiireistä kohoava pienii lanterniini. Kirkon nykyinen ulko- ja sisäasu on 1800- ja 1900-lukujen vaihteessa tehdystä jugendisoivasta uudistuksesta. Sakariston kirkkosalista erottavan yläreunastaan rokokoomaisesti kaartuilevan alttariseinän maalaustriptyykin, jonka aiheina ovat Ristiinnaulittu, Ylösnousemus ja Getsemane, on tehnyt Mikael Toppelius 1788. Saarnastuolin maalauskäsittely vuodelta 1794 on myös hänen käsialaansa.
Kirkon länsipuolella oleva pohjalainen renessanssitapuli on kirkkoa vanhempi. Kirkkotarhaan liittyy lisäksi vanha "ullakoksi" kutsuttu ruumishuone. Kirkkoaukion edustalla on Rantsilan kappalaisena 1775-1785 toimineen mm. kansanperinteen kerääjänä sekä uskonto- ja kansankulttuurin tutkimuksen uranuurtajana tunnetun Christfried Gananderin muistopatsas.
Historia
Rautakautisen eränkäyntialueen pysyvä asutus syntyi 1500-luvulla Savosta. Saloisten kappeliksi 1671 perustettu Rantsila siirtyi Siikajoen emäseurakuntaan 1689. Seurakunta itsenäistyi 1873. Kirkko rakennettiin 1785 kalajokelaisen kirkonrakentaja Simon Silvénin johdolla. Kirkon uudistuksesta 1907 vastasi arkkitehti Josef Stenbäck. Kirkkoa korjattiin 1983 arkkitehti Jorma Tepon laatiman suunnitelman mukaan.
Rantsila sijaitsi Oulu-Iisalmi maantien varrella. Rantsilan kunta perustettiin 1867, ja kunnallishallinnon luomisen ja maakaupan vapautumisen myötä kirkonkylän päätien varrelle alkoi keskittyä talonpoikaistilojen lisäksi mm. kauppaliikkeitä. Rantsilan ensimmäinen kansakoulu, kirkonkylän Aleksanterin koulu aloitti toimintansa 1882.

Description
The church village of Rantsila has retained the structure typical of church villages from the first half of the 20th century, and its building stock lines the old road that follows the Siikajoki river.
The public and residential buildings of the church village form a compact strip on the ridge along the eastern bank of the Siikajoki, along the old road running parallel to the river. The church stands on the crest of the ridge at Toppilankangas. Among the public buildings of the church village are the school named after Emperor Alexander II, the manttaalikunta loan grain storehouse and the travellers' home. The loan storehouse has served as a Civil Guard house, a parish hall and a local heritage museum. On the riverbank stands a dairy from the 1920s, typical of its time. The concrete-built, white-rendered building has kept its original appearance well. Otherwise, the building stock is in part modest or renewed.
The cross church at Hongikko, equal-armed in plan, has a roof with hipped ends at the ends of its cross arms. At the centre of the cross, a small lantern rises from the inner ridge of the roof. The church's present exterior and interior appearance dates from the Jugendstil-inspired renovation carried out at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The painted triptych on the altar wall, which separates the sacristy from the church nave and whose upper edge curves in rococo fashion, has as its subjects the Crucifixion, the Resurrection and Gethsemane, and was made by Mikael Toppelius in 1788. The painted decoration of the pulpit, dating from 1794, is also his work.
The Ostrobothnian Renaissance bell tower west of the church is older than the church. The churchyard also contains an old mortuary known as "ullakko". In front of the church square stands the memorial statue of Christfried Ganander, who served as chaplain of Rantsila in 1775-1785 and is known, among other things, as a collector of folk tradition and a pioneer in the study of religion and folk culture.
History
Permanent settlement in the Iron Age hunting area arose in the 16th century from Savonia. Rantsila, founded in 1671 as a chapel of Saloiset, was transferred to the mother parish of Siikajoki in 1689. The parish became independent in 1873. The church was built in 1785 under the direction of Simon Silvén, a church builder from Kalajoki. The 1907 renovation of the church was the responsibility of architect Josef Stenbäck. The church was repaired in 1983 according to a plan drawn up by architect Jorma Teppo.
Rantsila was situated along the Oulu-Iisalmi main road. The municipality of Rantsila was founded in 1867, and with the creation of municipal administration and the liberalisation of land trade, shops among others began to concentrate along the main road of the church village, in addition to farm holdings. Rantsila's first elementary school, the Aleksanteri School in the church village, began operating in 1882.
