Fort Sellers

Mineral County · W. Va. 28 north of Fort Ashby · location approximate

On land Washington surveyed for Elias Sellers in 1748 stood this fort, important link in system of frontier defenses. It was garrisoned by an officer and 30 men and withstood several attacks by the Indians.

1937 text, presented as a historical document. It uses the period's terms for Native and Black people, and tells frontier history from the settler's side.
