Battle of Pungoteague
Seven miles west. On May 30, 1814, the British Admiral Cockburn landed at Pungoteague Creek with 500 marines and fought a battle with the Eastern Shore militia under Major Finney. Cockburn, seeing that he would be surrounded, withdrew to Tangier Island, where the British had landed on April 5, 1814.
