Mechanicsville

This ridge was occupied by Porter's Corps (facing west), which formed the right wing of McClellan's army, June 26, 1862. The strong position was strengthened by earthworks and by an abatis along the creek. When A. P. Hill attacked late in the afternoon, the Confederates were driven back with severe loss.
