State Teachers College At Radford
A state college for women established in 1910. Opened 1913. Empowered by legislature in 1916 to grant degrees in education and in the arts and sciences. Present name authorized in 1924. The John Preston McConnell Library, named for the first president of the college, contains a valuable collection on the history of Southwest Virginia.
