Old Worsham

Prince Edward County · 5.6 miles south of Farmville. · location approximate

A short distance south stands the colonial jail of Prince Edward County, built about 1755; the courthouse was near by. The British cavalryman, Tarleton, raided here in July, 1781. Here Patrick Henry made a great speech against the ratification of the United States Constitution, 1788. Washington was here on his southern tour, June 7, 1791.
