Cadw's description

The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Monument.

The monument comprises the remains of a burial cairn, probably dating to the Bronze Age (c.2300 BC - 800 BC) and situated on a bracken-covered terrace on the S-facing slopes of Y Glog Fawr. The stone built cairn measures about 5m in diameter and about 0.5m in height. The cairn has been disturbed in the past, presumably the result of antiquarian investigation or robbing. A rectangular stone cist has been exposed. This cist measures 1.5m from NE to SW by 0.75m transversely; the orthostat that presumably formed the NE end has been removed and the large slab lying immediately to the SE may be the capstone.

The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric burial and ritual. The monument is an important relic of a prehistoric funerary and ritual landscape and retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of both intact secondary burial or ritual deposits and environmental and structural evidence.

The area scheduled comprises the remains described and an area around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive. It is circular and measures 12m in diameter.
