Cadw's description

The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Ancient Monument.

The monument consists of a free standing cross base probably dating to the early medieval or medieval period, which stands in the northwest corner of a cross-roads, close to the side of the road. The structure as a whole is c1m in height and 1.5m across at the bottom and is set on two steps. Above the steps is the cross base, which is a large block of stone which measures 0.4m high and 0.6m in width and depth, with large chamfered stops in the corners. The top is dished; with a rectangular socket 0.2m by 0.15m in the centre and has an arrow shape incised in the middle of the top of the south side.

The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of the organisation and practice of Christianity. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of associated archaeological features and deposits. A cross base may be part of a larger cluster of monuments and their importance can further enhanced by their group value.

The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
