Cadw's description

The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Ancient Monument.

The monument comprises five hut circles, the foundations of round houses probably dating to the Iron Age or Romano-British period (c. 800 BC - AD 400). Three huts lie within an unusually regular sub rectangular field enclosure which may be contemporary, while the other two huts are essentially unenclosed.

The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric domestic life and social organisation. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of structural evidence and associated archaeological features and deposits. The huts outside the enclosure are particularly well preserved. The association of the settlement with early field boundaries gives the site a special importance and, since the monument forms part of a wider ancient landscape which includes a range of broadly contemporary features, it has considerable group value.

The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
