Cadw's description

The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Ancient Monument.

The monument comprises the remains of an unusually complete and well-preserved isolated hut circle that probably dates to the Iron Age or Romano-British period (c. 800 BC - AD 400). It lies on a shelf on the north-facing slope of the Great Orme, just above a high, rocky scarp and comprises the foundations of a small, but substantially-built single hut. The internal and external facing of the walls together with the entrance are all clearly visible. A low field wall close by may be part of a contemporary field system.

The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of later prehistoric domestic construction practices. The monument retains significant archaeological potential and there is a strong probability that structural evidence has survived, together with internal and external floor surfaces. It also has group value in view of its locational association with more extensive early fields and other round huts on the Orme.

The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
