Cadw's description

The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Monument.

The monument comprises a standing stone, probably dating to the Early Bronze Age (c.2300 BC - 1200 BC). It is a large, angular quartzite stone, standing 1.9m in height and measuring 1.45m in thickness and 0.7m in width. The stone is orientated from ENE to WSW, with the larger sides facing NNE and SSW respectively. It is situated in improved pasture on a rounded ENE-facing slope above the Afon Fawr.

The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric ritual practices. The monument retains significant archaeological potential with a strong probability of associated archaeological features and deposits and forms an important element in the wider prehistoric funerary and ritual landscape.

The scheduled area comprises the remains described and an area around it within which related evidence may be expected to survive. It is circular and measures 5m in diameter.
