Cadw's description

The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Monument.

The monument comprises the remains of an earthfast prehistoric standing stone, probably dating to the Bronze Age (c. 2300 - 800 BC). It is located on the top of an undulating ridge in an area of upland rough pasture. The standing stone is roughly square in cross-section and its sides taper to a blunt point. It is aligned NE-SW. It measures 1.6m in height. The base measures c. 0.5m in width and 0.47m in depth. Packing stones are visible at the base of the stone.

The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric ritual and ceremonial practices. The monument is an important relic of a prehistoric funerary and ritual landscape. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of intact ritual deposits, together with structural evidence.

The scheduled area comprises the remains described and an area around within which related evidence may be expected to survive. It is circular in shape on plan and measures 6m in diameter.
