Cadw's description

The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Monument.

The monument comprises a standing stone, probably dating to the Bronze Age (c. 2300 - 800 BC). It is located at the bottom of a gentle valley slope overlooking the Afon Cwmere to the SSW. The standing stone measures 1.68m in height, 0.7m in length and 0.6m in width. It is oriented NE-SW. The stone tapers to a blunt point and is rectangular in cross-section at the base.

The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric ritual and ceremonial practices. The monument is well preserved and is an important relic of a prehistoric funerary and ritual landscape. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of associated archaeological features and deposits.

The scheduled area comprises the remains described and an area around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive. It is circular and measures 6m in diameter.
