Summary description and reason for designation
The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Monument.
The monument comprises an earthfast standing stone, probably dating to the Bronze Age (c. 2300 - 800 BC). The monument is set into the top of a natural ridge-like mound located on the valley floor of a tributary that flows into the Afon Ddu. It measures 1.2m in height, 0.57m in width and 0.23m in depth. It is made of sandstone and is aligned NNE-SSW. Packing stones are visible around the base.
The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric ritual practices. The monument is well preserved and is an important relic of a prehistoric funerary and ritual landscape. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of associated archaeological features and deposits.
The scheduled area comprises the remains described and an area around within which related evidence may be expected to survive. The scheduled area is circular in shape on plan and measures 6m in diameter.
