Cadw's description

The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Ancient Monument.

The monument comprises the remains of a sub-circular earthwork enclosure measuring 42m by 4mm. The enclosure comprises a low bank and ditch, spread by ploughing but still discernible. The bank is 3m wide, up to 0.3m high, and there are traces of an external ditch along the two long sides. There are gaps on the SW and NE sides, which may be entrances. The enclosure is located in a sloping field used for rough pasture, adjacent to a track. Traces of ridge and furrow can be seen over the enclosure and much of the surrounding field. The site is likely to be later prehistoric in date.

The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of later prehistoric defensive organisation and settlement. The site forms an important element within the wider later prehistoric context and within the surrounding landscape. The site is well preserved and retains considerable archaeological potential. There is a strong probability of the presence of evidence relating to chronology, building techniques and functional detail.

The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
