Cadw's description

The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Ancient Monument.

The monument comprises the remains of a large circular stone-built enclosure. The enclosure is around 50m in diameter and defined by a simple stone wall, now ruinous, spread on a pile of small boulders with no evidence of face work surviving. There is a possible entrance, 1.5m wide, on the eastern side, with an upright stone setting. The enclosure lies on slightly sloping ground in an area containing numerous cairns. The date of the enclosure is not known, however it is probably of prehistoric origin.

The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric defensive organisation and settlement. The site forms an important element within the wider later prehistoric context and within the surrounding landscape. The site is well preserved and retains considerable archaeological potential. There is a strong probability of the presence of evidence relating to chronology, building techniques and functional detail.

The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
