Cadw's description

The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Monument.

The monument comprises the remains of a burial cairn, probably dating to the Bronze Age (c.2300 - 800 BC). It measures approximately 12m in diameter and is 1.5m high. The cairn is located on the lower, southern slopes of Cwm Cadlan.

The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric burial and ritual practices. It is an important relic of a prehistoric funerary and ritual landscape and retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of both intact burial or ritual deposits, together with environmental and structural evidence. The cairn shares group value with an extensive and varied cluster of Prehistoric round cairns and settlement remains scattered along the same valley and across adjacent ridges.

The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive. Originally designated as Pant Sychbant Round Cairn and Earthworks, there is now insufficient evidence for the earthworks to ENE and the scheduled area has been revised to exclude them.
