Summary description and reason for designation

The monument comprises the remains of a settlement that probably dates to the Iron Age or Romano-British period (c. 800 BC - AD 400). It consists of a hut group containing one well-preserved hut 7 m across with banks 1.5 m wide and 0.3 m high and an entrance facing NE. Some 15 m to the E is another hut, less well preserved but of about the same diameter and with the entrance facing N. Other slight depressions and banks can be seen in the vicinity. These huts are thought to represent the remains of a once large settlement known as Trefwri which lay alongside the Braint E of the remaining huts.

The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of later prehistoric domestic construction practices. The main circular hut is a particularly well preserved example and its locational association with an ancillary structure, possibly not intended for domestic use, increases the site's potential for archaeological research. There is a strong probability that structural evidence has survived, together with internal and external floor surfaces. Several other broadly contemporary settlements have been identified nearby so that this settlement has considerable group value in the wider archaeological context.

The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
