Cadw's description
Location
Below the road and reached by a tree-lined drive.
History
Late Georgian small country house, shown on 1834 survey map; said to have been built by one of the Edward-Hill brothers who between them also built Ants Hill and Mapsland, in original form all very similar as is Fern Hill.
Exterior
2-storey stucco fronts with plinths to square double-pile structures. 3 hipped roofs in U-plan with brick chimney stacks. Broadly spaced 2-window N front facing up drive with offset landing window over central 6-panel door that is now the main entrance; 12-pane sash windows. Central full height recess to E side containing 1 similar sash window over flat-roof porch with reeded pilasters and Doric columns; 6-panel door. 2-window S side with 4-pane sashes in similar recesses; later range adjoins to left with modern windows and a small outbuilding dated 1850 extends to the S. A further range runs N along the W side of the house; the northern hipped end is a conversion of the former coach house retaining horitzontally sliding sash windows with cambered heads and forming a 2-sided courtyard to the front in which stands a cast-iron water pump.
Interior
The interior retains contemporary staircase.
