Carries the minor road which runs along the W side of Llwyn-on Reservoir over Nant Aber-nant stream

History

Built as part of the work for the construction of Llwyn-on Reservoir, part of the water-supply system for Cardiff designed at the end of the nineteenth century. Llwyn-on Reservoir was the last of the four reservoirs comprising the scheme to be built, and detailed design work was carried out by Charles H Priestley, on a bigger scale than envisaged in the original scheme. It was begun in 1912, but work was delayed after the outbreak of war in 1914, and it was not completed until 1926.

Exterior

Wide segmentally arched bridge with parapets to either side of roadway. Bold rock-faced masonry, the parapets have terminal piers with heavy copings, rock-faced with tooled margins; similar piers flank the arch, which has rock-faced voussoirs. Continuous string-course below parapet.

Reason for designation

Listed as a fine masonry bridge with high-quality detailing, and as an integral part of the works associated with the construction of Llwyn-on Reservoir, an exceptionally well-preserved major Welsh civic engineering scheme.
