Location

Situated on hill N of Penpont Bridge up private drive through Penpont.

History

Home farm to Penpont, probably later C18. Large farmhouse. Marked on 1842 Tithe map as part of the Penpont estate, occupied by John Davies, with 189 acres (76.5 hectares). Set in cobble forecourt with low rubble walls.

Exterior

Farmhouse, rendered with hipped slate close eaved roof and one big brick ridge stack towards right roof hip. Two storeys and attic, long facade of 1-3-1 bays, the centre with steep broad gable flanked by small rendered square chimneys. In the gable a traceried small lunette with additional crescent-shaped top pane, giving a trilobe shape. Casement windows with stone sills, three small pairs to first floor centre over two longer pairs and centre door in rendered porch with timber pediment. Flat-headed board door in oak doorcase. Two seats in porch and stone flags. The large side bays have triple casements, small above, broader and longer with top-lights below. Left end has attached colourwashed lofted outbuilding with brick ridge stack and half-hipped w gable. First floor has cross-window to right over C20 long window and door. Centre left has loft opening over former stable, with cambered headed door flanked by windows, all with brick heads. Door and window to left. Stone sills, board doors, windows with internal shutters. Curved SW corner. To right of house is an altered single-storey colourwashed and slated outbuilding range, with long horizontal openings under eaves, part-obscured by a large C20 shed.
