Location
Crossing the Tennant Canal just NE of the road through Neath Abbey Business Park.
History
Bridge over the canal probably to former Mines Royal Copper Works and possibly contemporary with the building of the canal in 1821. Later the roadway raised by infilling between parapets in concrete creating a flat deck probably for a tramroad although not marked as such on the OS First Edition of 1884.
Exterior
Bridge, rubble stone with some blocks of furnace slag. single segmental arch with sandstone voussoirs. Rubble parapets with slag coping blocks. Roadway infilled in concrete and raised some 60cm above parapet copings. Slag copings on E side are to a quarter-round profile.
Reason for designation
Included for historic transport interest as an early C19 canal bridge modified to accommodate a tramroad.
