History
War memorial to Aberfan dead of 1914-18 war with added plaques for 1939-45 and 1999. Bronze statue of soldier by Havard Thomas 1921.
Exterior
War memorial of bronze soldier on Portland stone pedestal. Soldier has helmet upraised in one hand, rifle loosely held in other. Pedestal has plinth, tapered shaft with incised inscription and bronze wreath to front, affixed bronze plaque with names to rear. Added plaque to right side with names from 1939-45, added plaque to left with 1999 name from Bosnia.
Reason for designation
Included for its special interest as a distinctive war memorial with statue by a leading Welsh sculptor.
