History
A milestone probably set up at the start of the Mallwyd to Welshpool turnpike established under the
Montgomeryshire Turnpikes Act of 1769.
Exterior
A slate milestone about 0.5 m high, with splayed top corners. It indicates ''Machynlleth / 18 miles /
Mallwyd 6½ / Can-office 5½ / Pool 20''.
Reason for designation
A milestone of the turnpike era on an important cross-Wales route.
