Cadw's description

On line of street adjacent to Lion Hotel.

Four shops at time of inspection, "Castle Corner", W H Owen (2 shops) and "Wool Shop", but originally probably 2 premises.

Eighteenth century, remodelled and roof raised early C19.

Slate roof with, to right, yellow brick chimney. Partially timber-framed. Front of painted smooth render with some scribed lines imitating ashlar. At rear, ground and first floor rubble stone, and second floor in red brick, clearly later extension.

Three storeys, 8 window front arranged 4 + 4. Low pitched roof with deeply overhanging boarded eaves. Windows generally small pane hornless sashes but some changes. Windows set very shallow. Second floor windows set under eaves, 9 panes, (2nd and 6th windows from left blocked). First floor windows taller with 12 panes, (but 2nd and 3rd from left have modern glazing). Ground floor has shopfronts of c. 1900 and mid C20.

Rendered gable end to E. Some slate hanging on W gable. Rear has modern additions on ground floor.

Group value with Lion Hotel and Fountain Hotel opposite.
