Location

Situated on the S side of the harbour some 50m W of St Julian's Seaman's Church.

History

Row of C18 to C19 storehouses, the W block of two separate blocks of marine stores, comprising a 3-storey range each side of a single-storey range. There were buildings along the back of the harbour from the late C18, but these buildings appear to be C19, possibly incorporating earlier masonry. Old photographs show rough render and limewash to the end of No 4. The 3-storey No 1, TS Tenby, the sea cadets premises, was 2-storey in old photographs with irregular fenestration, still described as 2-storey in 1977.

Exterior

Row of maritime stores, rubble stone with slate close-eaved roofs. three sections. No 1, TS Tenby, to right, is three-storey, the top floor added in C20. Four-window range, the windows grouped 3 to left and centre, one to right. Square C20 sash windows, with stone voussoirs on metal lintels. C20 cement sills. Windows all same height but narrower in left bay: those to left are 9-pane, the others 12-pane. Door in ground floor left bay, with blocked overlight. Right end gable has broad opening.
Nos 2-3, the single-storey range, appears to be a C20 reconstruction as the inside wall is of blockwork. Front wall is slightly forward of No 1 but continuous with No 4. Three square windows with C20 plastic glazing imitating 12-pane sashes, and pair of ledged doors between left and centre windows, red brick heads, concrete sills.
No 4, at left end, is 3-storey with external stone stair on gable end. Four even bays with tilting small-paned windows and brick heads. Nine-pane windows to upper floor, 12-pane to first floor and ground floor 2 centre bays. Slate sills. Ground floor left and right broad double doors and inserted window to extreme right (not aligned). Left end stair to first floor right wide doors with C20 timber lintel and second floor door to left with small window. Rear has 2 blocked windows with red brick cambered heads to both first and second floors.

Reason for designation

Included as range of warehouse buildings illustrative of the trading history of Tenby and as part of the group of stone buildings lining the harbour.
